Animal Control
The Animal Control Unit administers a spaying/neutering program, which is funded by the Hickory City Council. This program assists financially in the spaying/neutering of dogs and cats. To participate in this program an individual must reside in the City of Hickory and have a single income of less than $20,000 or a combined household income of $25,000 or less. City of Hickory Animal Control is a function of the Hickory Police Department. Animal Control Unit is given the task of enforcing local City Ordinances and State Statutes. These laws are primarily to protect citizens and their pets from injury and to assist in maintaining a quality level of life for both. The Animal Control Unit attempts whenever possible to find homes and owners for stray dogs or cats and works with the Catawba County Animal Shelter who aid in the adoption process.
