Identify your water service line material

What is the Lead and Copper Rule?
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) helps protect communities from lead in drinking water. In 2021, the EPA updated the rule—now called the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR)—to require water systems across the country to identify all water service line materials.

How You Can Help
To meet this requirement, the City of Hickory is building a complete inventory of service line materials for all customers. Knowing what your service line is made of helps us keep our drinking water safe and identify any locations that may need attention. We need your help to complete this inventory!

Please visit www.hickorync.gov/LCRR and fill out a short survey to report your service line material. Your participation is essential and brings us one step closer to getting the lead out!

Why You May Receive a Notice
Addresses listed as “Unknown” or “Galvanized Requiring Replacement” on either the public or private side of the water meter will continue to receive notices until both sides of the service line are confirmed to be Non-Lead. You can view your property’s designation and find next steps at www.hickorync.gov/LCRR.

Our Commitment to You
The City of Hickory is dedicated to providing high quality, safe drinking water for all customers. Thank you for doing your part to help protect our community’s water.
