Kickoff for Fire Prevention Week

On Sunday, Oct. 4, fire departments across the county will be celebrating Fire Prevention Week activities. To kick off the national event, Catawba County Firefighters will be holding a special display at Home Depot located on Highway 70 beginning at 1 p.m. and continuing until 3 p.m.

Firefighters and fire trucks from across Catawba County are planning to attend.  Agencies include Catawba Fire Department, Conover Fire Department, Cooksville Fire Department, Hickory Fire Department, Long View Fire Department, Mountain View Fire Department, St. Stephens Fire Department, and Sherrills Ford–Terrell Fire & Rescue.

Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire & Rescue will have their inflatable fire safety house for families to walk through and spot the hazards. Another special event will be hosted by Catawba Fire Department and includes a child’s sized obstacle course (Junior Agility Challenge) to learn more about the job of a firefighter.

Back by popular demand, Cooksville Fire Department will have their replica horse and wagon/buggy on display for families to take photos and drone demonstrations during the event. Pluggie (the talking fire hydrant) will also be making appearances and Safe Kids Catawba County will have a display on car seat safety.

During this free event, firefighters will be available to answer questions and to pass out free literature and treats for children. Stop by, sit in a fire truck, enjoy free fun, and help firefighters celebrate National Fire Prevention Week!
