Hickory firefighters respond to house fire on 12th Street NE

At approximately 19:37 Sunday, Hickory firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire located at 1038 12th Street NE. On arrival at 19:40, firefighters reported fire and smoke coming from the rear of the two-story house. Firefighters were notified that all occupants were safely outside the residence. They began work to extinguish the fire, which was reported controlled at 20:12.   

Hickory Fire Department responded with three engines, one ladder, a rescue truck, and two command units. Catawba County EMS and Hickory Police also responded to the scene. St. Stephens Fire and Long View Fire assisted by covering districts. The fire was reported controlled at 20:12.   

Damage to the house was considered heavy. One firefighter received a minor injury, but no other injuries were reported. The Red Cross was called and will be assisting the residents. 

Occupants reported that the smoke alarms alerted them to the fire. Hickory Fire Investigators responded to the incident and determined the fire was accidentally caused by an electrical issue.
