Dave Leonetti promoted to Business Development Director effective March 1

After nearly 18 years of dedicated service to the City of Hickory, Business and Community Development Manager Dave Leonetti will be promoted on March 1 to lead the Office of Business Development as the new Business Development Director.

The Office of Business Development serves as a catalyst for economic growth, focusing on attracting new businesses, supporting existing enterprises, and fostering innovation to create a thriving environment for investment and job creation. Through strategic planning, collaborative partnerships, and targeted marketing, the team has advanced redevelopment projects, strengthened workforce development, and positioned Hickory as a premier destination for business and talent.

As Business Development Director, Leonetti will continue to strengthen the City's strategic economic growth initiatives, build upon Hickory’s key partnerships, and expand on innovative solutions to deliver exceptional service to the community.

Leonetti began his career with the City in 2007 as an intern in the City Manager’s Office, later serving as a planner before becoming Community Development Manager in 2012. He was promoted to Business and Community Development Manager in 2017.

Leonetti holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree in history from Saint Joseph’s University. He is a certified planner through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).

Beyond his professional role, Leonetti is deeply involved in the community, serving as staff liaison to the Hickory Downtown Development Association, a board member for Arts Culture Catawba, and chair of Frye Regional Medical Center’s Patient Family Advisory Council. His previous leadership roles include past president of Rotary Club of Lake Hickory and the Catawba Science Center board.

City Manager Warren Wood noted Leonetti’s leadership and experience, saying, “Dave has played an important role in Hickory’s progress over the years. His knowledge and collaborative approach make him well-suited to lead the Office of Business Development. I’m confident he will continue to drive initiatives that strengthen our economy and enhance quality of life for everyone in Hickory.”

Leonetti expressed his enthusiasm for this new opportunity, stating, “I’m honored to step into this role and continue serving the residents and businesses of Hickory. Our City has incredible momentum, and I’m excited to work with our team and community partners to build on that success and create even more opportunities for growth.”

Leonetti lives in Hickory with his wife, Pam.
