Reedy River String Band to perform for Sails Original Music Series

The City of Hickory's Sails Original Music Series continues with Reedy River String Band on Friday, May 24. The free concert begins at 7 p.m. on Union Square in downtown Hickory.

Reedy River String Band plays foot-stompin' music in three-part harmony! Hailing from Greenville, South Carolina, the band brings a fresh take on Appalachian roots music infused with elements of rock ‘n’ roll and jam band music.

“Yes, you’ll love their Appalachian roots vibe, but then get a big surprise when they transcend those roots and start to rock ‘n’ roll,” says Sails Music Coordinator Bob Sinclair.

Since forming in 2021, Reedy River String Band has taken the Southeast of the United States by storm, performing at notable bluegrass festivals like the Earl Scruggs Music Festival and the Charleston Bluegrass Festival. In any given show, multi-instrumentalist Sterling Waite interchanges mandolin, fiddle, banjo, and harmonica to bring a range of textures to the band's live performances. With Rush Morgan on guitar and Mark Dye on upright bass, all three of the members are songwriters and lead singers, lending a depth and variety of original material beyond the band’s relatively short time together.

Started in 2012, the City of Hickory’s Sails Original Music Series showcases well-crafted, live music by bringing original music artists to The Sails on the Square. Original music is defined as music that is written or composed by the artist who performs it.

The Sails Original Music Series offers excellent musical entertainment from national and international touring acts with the help of numerous sponsors. Thanks to presenting sponsor Protection Products, Inc., and supporting sponsors Atriax, Bob Sinclair Music, Larry’s Music & Sound, Pfahlert Creative Labs, Olde Hickory Brewery, and Crowne Plaza for supporting the series.

In addition to the seating available at Union Square, audience members are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. A variety of close-by bars and restaurants offer food and beverages.

ABC permitted businesses within the Hickory Downtown Social District will sell beer, wine, and other alcoholic beverages in specially marked cups that may be consumed on Union Square, sidewalks, and other public areas within the designated boundaries of the social district.
