Public meeting about Charlotte Water interbasin transfer request

Charlotte Water will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, May 8, at 5:30 p.m., at the Ridgeview Branch Library to discuss its interbasin transfer request and hear concerns from residents in the Hickory metro region.

The City of Charlotte has filed a notice of its intent to request an increase from 33 million gallons per day (MGD) to 63 MGD regarding the water it transfers from the Catawba River Basin, which serves Hickory and the surrounding areas, to the Rocky River Basin, a tributary of the Yadkin/Pee Dee River.

Representatives from local governments will be in attendance to discuss the potential local impacts of Charlotte Water’s interbasin transfer request. 

Charlotte Water is the public water and wastewater utility for the City of Charlotte and greater Mecklenburg County, including the towns of Matthews, Mint Hill, Pineville, Huntersville, Davidson, and Cornelius.
