Intersection closed at 21st Avenue NE and Fifth Street NE due to water line break

While performing work in the area, a utility contractor struck a water line near the intersection of 21st Avenue NE and Fifth Street NE in the Viewmont area of Hickory. The intersection is closed to traffic until the water line is repaired. The detour route is 23rd Avenue Drive NE to N.C. 127 to 14th Avenue NE. Please avoid this area if possible. City of Hickory crews are en route to this location to make the emergency repairs. The City will advise when the intersection has been reopened.

Update - April 30, 4:45 p.m. - Water service is expected to be restored in 3-5 hours, but the roadway will continue to be closed until further notice.

Update - April 30, 8:30 p.m. - The break has been repaired and water service restored. The roadway remains closed until further notice. Customers experiencing discolored water are advised to run an outside spigot to flush the water lines within the home or building.
